FMD is a personalized design service offering stylized profile drawings & general arrangement plans using AutoCAD & supported with 3D color renderings using Rhino software for “real life” visualization.
 
FMD has a growing portfolio of expedition style motor yachts, luxury motor yachts & refit/conversion proposals of various sizes, to satisfy a wide range of tastes & desires.

“After years of being washed around the deck of stern trawlers in the wilds of the Southern Ocean, it didn't take long to garner a healthy respect for Mother Ocean & the soundness of a robust vessel, so my designs reflect this focus & tend to start with a foundation of safety, sea kindliness & operational ease. My styling stems from the symbiotic melding of explorer style vessels & luxury motor yachts, which incorporates current Client desires to sail to remote locations but still look the part, whether anchored in a lagoon in Madagascar or stern-to in Monaco. Globetrotting one week, cocktail parties the next, all in comfort, style & safety,” says designer & company proprietor Captain Grant Maughan.           

  All FMD designs are the vision of Captain Grant Maughan. After spending years working on the commercial side of boating on deep-sea trawlers, tugs & dive-support/research vessels in locations as diverse as the Antarctic circle, Borneo & Africa, Grant moved into yachting, spending several years criss-crossing the Pacific & diving the Red Sea & Seychelles before becoming involved in the build of the 184' Halter expedition yacht “Samantha Lin” (ex Dream, now Pangaea). Years of operating the 184 led to the position of build Captain on the Danish-constructed 206´ Motor Yacht “Big Roi”. Captain Maughan has operated “Big Roi” since her launch in June 2002. In the design of his yachts, he utilizes his practical sea-going experience, a fusion of skills garnered from the yachting & commercial industries, and a wealth of hands-on shipyard experience.
